When does Orlando's Christmas season actually start and end?

Nobody flips a switch on December 1. The festive season here opens a lot earlier than most visitors expect. SeaWorld goes first on November 6, followed by Disney's Jollywood Nights on the 7th, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on the 8th, and Universal's entire resort on the 14th. From there it runs through Christmas, swallows New Year's Eve without pausing, and fades out in the first week of January.

One thing has changed this year. Jollywood Nights now runs into January, which it has never done before, with two dates after New Year's. If you've read that the hard-ticket parties all finish before Christmas, that advice is out of date.

For the full atmosphere, aim at the two or three weeks before Christmas. For the same decorations with room to breathe, come in the first week of January instead. You lose some of the buzz and gain a great deal of space.

Which Christmas Events are in Orlando for December 2026?

December here ranges from an entire park being redecorated to a single street closing for an hour. That difference matters when you're working out what earns a day of its own. Start with the events people fly in for.

The Flagship Theme Park Events

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a separate ticket, held after hours at Magic Kingdom from 7 p.m. to midnight, though ticket holders can walk in from 4 p.m. There are 25 nights: November 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27 and 29, then December 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20 and 22. Snow falls on Main Street while the parade goes past. In Florida. In November. The bigger draw is that day guests go home, so you're walking a half-empty Magic Kingdom.

Tickets run $189 to $229 per adult plus tax depending on the night. Be careful with that lower figure: only a handful of early-November dates hit it, and after Thanksgiving nothing sells below $200. Children aged 3 to 9 pay $10 less, and there are Passholder and DVC discounts. Tickets went on sale in July and the good nights do sell out, so this is the one thing here you shouldn't leave until later.

Disney Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios

Disney Jollywood Nights is the other hard ticket, at Hollywood Studios, 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with entry from 5:30. Fifteen nights spread across November 7 to January 5, and 2026 is the first year it runs past New Year's. Tickets are $169 to $199 plus tax, cheapest on the earliest November dates. The theme is 1920s Hollywood glamour, which plays to adults far more than to children.

About twenty dollars separates the two parties and they are built for completely different crowds, which makes this the priciest small mistake available in December. With under-10s in the group, book Mickey's. Without them, Jollywood is the better evening and the cheaper one.

Universal Holidays

Universal's Holidays runs November 14 to January 3 and is included with regular admission across all three parks. No extra ticket. Three parts of it are distinct enough that people search for them by name:

Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure -

The Who-liday Spectacular stage show plays in Seuss Landing on first-come standby seating, no reservation needed. A separately ticketed Grinch character breakfast usually runs alongside it. In 2025 that cost $58.99 for adults and $32.99 for children; 2026 pricing isn't out.

Universal's Holiday Parade featuring Macy's at Universal Studios Florida

Real Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons, holiday floats and a tree lighting with Santa. It ran nightly at 5:30 p.m. last season, but Universal hasn't published 2026 times, so check the daily park schedule. Reserved viewing comes bundled into the paid Universal Holiday Tour, which started at $79.99 in 2025.

Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

It is now spread across three locations because Epic Universe has joined the holiday season. The Ministry of Magic gets decorations and hot Butterbeer alongside Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, and Celestial Park is lit. As darkness falls, Hogwarts Castle transforms into a winter spectacle and festive music fills the streets of Hogsmeade. It's the best-looking twenty minutes of the season and costs nothing beyond your park ticket. Keep expectations sensible at Epic, though. Its holiday offering is decoration and food, not a fourth headline show.

SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration

SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration runs November 6 to January 4, comes with admission, and packs in more programming per ticket than any other park here. O Wondrous Night, Winter Wonderland on Ice, Rudolph's Christmas Town, the Sesame Street Christmas Parade, and the Sea of Trees, where a 70-foot centrepiece throws its reflection right across the water after dark. Seasonal bundles were listed around $59.99 ticket-only, $99.99 with all-day dining and $169.99 for the full bundle, though these are promotional rates that move about, so check before booking.

One practical note. Nearly all of it runs to a fixed showtime schedule rather than continuously. SeaWorld is the park where you check the timetable in the morning and build the day around it. Wander and you'll miss half of it.

EPCOT's International Festival of the Holidays

The biggest of them all: EPCOT's International Festival of the Holidays

For sheer size, nothing else comes close. It runs November 27 to December 30 and turns the whole park into the event:

• Seasonal food kiosks in every World Showcase pavilion
• Holiday Storytellers sharing traditions from each country represented
• The Candlelight Processional, a fifty-piece orchestra and mass choir performing the Christmas story in an open-air theatre at dusk, with a celebrity narrator, three times a night

All of it comes with regular park admission, and you can queue for Candlelight for nothing. Dining packages guarantee a seat and reliably sell out fast, but as of late Disney hadn't announced 2026 narrators, showtimes or package pricing. For scale, 2025 quick-service packages started at $41 for adults and $24 for children. The announcement usually lands between midsummer and early fall, so set a reminder rather than a budget.

If the packages have gone by the time you book, standby still works. Pick one of the earlier performances, join the queue well before it starts, and eat afterwards. You'll have a late dinner, but you'll see the show.

These events take longer to fit into a trip than people expect. The two parties fall on separate nights at separate parks, and EPCOT's festival really needs a day to itself. Five days is about the floor for a Christmas-week visit built around them, which is roughly what this 5-day itinerary maps out.

Where you stay matters more on an Orlando Christmas vacation than at any other point in the year. Hotels near the parks fill months before Christmas week, and once they do, whatever is left carries a holiday premium with no room to negotiate it down. That makes vacation rentals in Orlando something to settle months out rather than weeks. For larger families and groups the sums work differently again: villas in Orlando put everybody under one roof at a single nightly rate, and split across eight or ten people that lands well under two or three hotel rooms.

A step up from free: Single-Attraction Experiences

Standalone attractions that go all in on a holiday theme. None need a full day, but most need a booked time slot.

Gaylord Palms' ICE!

A walk-through installation carved from real ice and kept at 9°F. Advance purchase only, as there's no box office on site. It returns for 2026 as one of eight ICE! locations, but Orlando's dates and this year's theme were still unannounced in late July. If you see "Rudolph" quoted as the 2026 theme, that's last year's, recycled.

Orlando Museum of Art's Festival of Trees

November 14 to 22, and this is the 40th, themed "Forty Seasons of Joy." Fifty-plus designer trees, a holiday boutique, Breakfast with Santa. Only nine days, so it's easy to miss by accident.

Dazzling Nights at Harry P. Leu Gardens

A timed-entry light walk through the botanical gardens and the best light event outside the parks. 2026 dates aren't posted.

Crayola Experience's "Colorful Christmas"

November 21 to January 3, included with admission. A good option for a rainy day or a break from the parks with younger children.

Orlando Science Center and SEA LIFE Orlando

Both run holiday overlays included with admission. Neither has confirmed dates, and SEA LIFE hasn't confirmed this year's event name either. It's been renamed twice in three years.

The Free Ones

None of these will anchor a whole day, but they cost nothing, ask little, and are lovely.

Now Snowing at Celebration

Is the pick of them, and the one most visitors miss. Market Street closes to traffic and snow falls on families standing about in shirtsleeves, nightly from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., starting November 28. Free, twenty minutes from the parks, and the closest Orlando gets to a small-town Christmas. 701 Front Street, Celebration. With young children, an hour here asks a lot less of them than a fifth day in the parks, and it tends to be the evening they talk about afterwards.

Winter Park Christmas Parade

The 74th annual, Saturday December 5 at 9 a.m. It runs down Park Avenue from Cole to New England and finishes at Pennsylvania. Central Florida's oldest continuous holiday parade.

Winter on the Avenue

The night before the parade, December 4, 5 to 9 p.m. in Central Park. This is where the official tree lighting and menorah lighting happen.

Lake Eola's tree lighting and nightly light-and-music show

A 72-foot tree with a synchronized display running into early January. 2026 dates aren't published.

Disney Springs' Christmas Tree Stroll

A free walk through themed trees with a scavenger-hunt map, plus nightly snowfall effects. Disney renamed this from the "Christmas Tree Trail" some years ago, though older guides still use the old name.

Winter Park is where you go for lights without buying a park ticket. The tree lighting falls on the Friday evening and the parade on Saturday morning, so a single overnight covers both. It's a different sort of Christmas from the theme park version: brick streets, a local crowd, nothing produced.

Find New Year Eve Events in Orlando for December 31st , 2026

New Year's Eve isn't a separate season. It's the last and busiest night of the Christmas run, though the crowds behave differently enough to plan around.

A caveat first. As of July, nothing about December 31, 2026 has been announced by anyone. Universal publishes its New Year's details in mid-December, and SeaWorld's current page is still last year's. Everything below follows the 2025 pattern, which has held steady for years, but treat the times as indicative rather than booked.

Universal CityWalk

The biggest concentrated crowd in Orlando gathers here, and the core celebration is free, with no ticket and no park admission required. Live music and DJ sets on the Waterfront Stage, roaming entertainment, and a midnight countdown with confetti across the complex.

A few things to know:

• Paid add-ons are optional. Individual restaurants sell dining packages with guaranteed seating, and Universal's hotels run separate 21+ parties through Eventbrite. Prices aren't published in advance.
• There is no ticketed "EVE" party. Universal's old hard-ticket CityWalk event has gone from its official programming, but stale reseller pages still advertise it. Don't buy one.
• Epic Universe ran its own countdown last year, with DJ sets at the Hemisphere Stage in Celestial Park and a midnight fountain show. It was the park's first, and it will probably return.

Elsewhere in Orlando

SeaWorld

Seaworld runs several countdowns and midnight fireworks included with admission. The softest landing if you want fireworks without the CityWalk crush.

Downtown

The reliable option is Midnight on Magnolia at CityArts rather than anything at Lake Eola. One thing to flag: Lake Eola's big fireworks night is the Fourth of July "Fireworks at the Fountain," not New Year's. Plenty of roundups get this wrong.

The Promenade at Sunset Walk

The Promenade at Sunset Walk in Kissimmee runs a free all-ages street party with midnight fireworks, and it's the closest large event to most villa communities.

Individual resorts

Individual resorts across the area host smaller, quieter gatherings for guests who would rather not fight the biggest crowd of the year.

Covering both Christmas week and New Year's Eve makes for a long trip, and it's the version most big family groups end up on. That's roughly the ground a 10-day itinerary covers, with the parties at one end and the countdown at the other.

Is January a good time to visit Orlando after Christmas?

Once January 4 or 5 passes, the city empties out fast.

• Crowds fall to some of the lowest levels of the whole year
• Weather stays comfortable, with daytime highs still in the low 70s
• Rates ease down from their holiday peak, for hotels and villas alike
• Some events keep running. Jollywood Nights on January 3 and 5, SeaWorld's Three Kings Celebration on January 2, 3 and 6, and most light displays through the first week

The exception is Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, January 6 to 10, 2027: a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon back to back, plus the Goofy and Dopey Challenges, with 2027 marking the half marathon's 30th anniversary.

If you're reading this hoping to enter, general registration opened in March 2026 and has already sold out. There is no official runDisney waitlist, which is a common and costly misconception. Two routes remain. Charity bibs come through 30-plus official partners and guarantee entry in exchange for a fundraising minimum, though many partners now run waitlists of their own. Travel packages from operators holding guaranteed bibs are the other. For 2028, registration opens around March 2027, and Club runDisney membership buys an earlier window.

A week suits a January stay: long enough to make proper use of the short lines, short enough to avoid the padding that creeps into quiet-season trips, which is the balance a 7-day itinerary strikes. If you haven't settled on length yet, read the Orlando itinerary options side by side before fixing dates.

The same early-start logic applies to where you stay, and more so at the top end. Orlando's most sought-after villa resorts are usually spoken for before the season opens, and properties at that level are a small pool to begin with. If a certain standard is the point of the trip rather than a bonus, start looking through Villa Holidays months ahead, not weeks.

What's changed or gone for the 2026 season?

Two long-running Disney traditions are missing this year. Both still appear in most older Orlando Christmas guides, so it's easy to plan a day around something that no longer exists.

The Grand Floridian gingerbread house is retired.

Disney has confirmed it isn't coming back. It went up every year from 1999, which is why it turns up in almost every archived article about Christmas at Walt Disney World, and all of those are now out of date. Smaller gingerbread displays will appear around the resort instead, and the displays at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn and Animal Kingdom Lodge are all still expected. One caveat on those: Disney's 2026 wording suggests access to resort holiday displays may now need a resort stay or a dining reservation, so confirm before making a special trip.

Cinderella Castle's Dream Lights

Cinderella Castle's Dream Lights haven't returned since 2019 and aren't on the 2026 lineup either. Magic Kingdom's castle moment this year is Frozen Holiday Surprise, a short forecourt show with Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff that ends in castle projections. If a "best Christmas lights in Orlando" list still promises 17 miles of icicle lights on the castle, it hasn't been updated in seven years.

Who is each Orlando Christmas event for?

Most of these are good. Not all of them are good for you. Plan an Orlando family Christmas around small children and half this list is wasted on you; travel as adults and a different half is.

A note on dates and prices. This guide was checked in July 2026, about four months out from the season. Disney and Universal have published their headline dates. Most of the smaller operators haven't, and Candlelight Processional pricing, Universal's showtimes and every New Year's Eve detail are all still unannounced. A date with no note beside it has been published and you can plan around it. A date with one hasn't, so check it before you book flights.
